Our Programme Pillars

Our programmes are designed to work together, supporting the whole child and the systems that shape their life.

NurtureOne – Child Sponsorship & Development

NurtureOne is our structured virtual foster-parenting programme, connecting sponsors around the world with vulnerable children in Nigeria.

Through consistent sponsorship, children receive educational support, regular meals through our feeding programme, basic welfare and access to age-appropriate life and practical skills sessions that build confidence and resilience.

Sponsors receive regular updates, photographs and progress reports, allowing them to follow a child’s journey while upholding safeguarding and child-protection standards.

By combining education, nutrition and personal development, NurtureOne supports the whole child — not just their schooling, but their long-term wellbeing.

EDUCATION ACCESS & CHILD DEVELOPMENT

Education is one of the strongest pathways out of poverty, yet many vulnerable children face barriers that go beyond school fees or learning materials. In communities affected by poverty, hunger and malnutrition directly impact school attendance, concentration and learning outcomes.

GPK supports children to remain in school and engage meaningfully with learning, while recognising that educational success is closely linked to a child’s nutritional and health status. Our education interventions are therefore designed to be nutrition-sensitive, addressing learning needs alongside the underlying conditions that hinder a child’s ability to thrive academically.

By supporting education within a broader framework of child wellbeing, we help reduce dropout, improve engagement and strengthen long-term outcomes for children.

FAMILY STABILITY & WELFARE SUPPORT

Strong families are essential to child protection and development. However, economic hardship, food insecurity and rising living costs place immense strain on households, often pushing families into crisis.

In recent years, GPK observed a significant increase in families struggling to meet basic needs, with food insecurity and childhood malnutrition emerging as recurring stressors. Our family support work prioritises stabilisation, ensuring that immediate welfare and nutritional needs are addressed as a foundation for recovery and resilience.

By responding to urgent needs while supporting longer-term family stability, GPK helps reduce the risk of harm, displacement and school disruption for children living in vulnerable households.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT & EMERGENCY RESPONSE

GPK provides community-based support and emergency response in times of heightened vulnerability, including displacement, economic shocks and seasonal hardship.

Emergency interventions often involve addressing acute food insecurity and nutritional need, particularly where families face sudden loss of income or housing. These responses are designed as protective measures, reducing immediate harm while stabilising households during a crisis.

Our emergency work is informed by long-term community presence and local insight, ensuring responses are timely, dignified and aligned with broader child protection and family support goals.

HEALTH & WELLBEING

Access to healthcare remains a critical challenge for many families living in poverty. Health outcomes for children are often worsened by malnutrition, which increases vulnerability to illness, delays recovery and compounds existing medical conditions.

GPK supports families to navigate health access challenges, advocate for children’s care and respond to urgent medical needs. Our approach recognises that health interventions are most effective when nutritional needs are addressed alongside medical support.

By working at the intersection of health and nutrition, we help families mitigate preventable risks and support children’s physical development and wellbeing.
